The starting point for a class visit is the New Mexico State Fair’s official School Days program page, not the ordinary ticket checkout. Check the program’s registration status, confirm that your group qualifies, and obtain the current instructions before making transportation or payment commitments.
Current status, checked October 1, 2026: The School Days page says registration for 2026 has closed. It lists school.days@expo.nm.gov and 505-485-3776 for program questions. A 2027 registration window, deadline, price, or chaperone ratio was not confirmed on that page at this check.

Start with the program page and confirm the year
Bookmark the official School Days page and return to it when planning the next school year. Search results, social posts, and shortened registration links can remain available after the event has ended. Follow a registration link only after checking that its form names the correct fair year and program.
The program describes educational opportunities involving New Mexico history, science, arts, culture, livestock, and agriculture. Choose a learning objective before selecting a date. A visit built around one classroom topic is easier to organize than a general attempt to cover everything at the fair.
Do not interpret the fair’s overall date range as the list of eligible School Days dates. Ask the coordinator which program days are available and whether any time limits apply to arrival or departure.
Check whether your group is eligible
Contact the coordinator if your group’s status is unclear, especially for homeschool cooperatives, mixed-age groups, preschool groups, or organizations outside a conventional school. The current closed-registration page does not establish a blanket eligibility rule for all of these groups.
Ask about the participating student ages, any minimum or maximum group size, the required adult supervision, and how teachers, aides, drivers, and additional adults are counted. Obtain the actual program terms rather than applying another fair’s school-trip policy.
Our New Mexico State Fair guide covers the event more broadly. Its general admission information should not be used as a substitute for a School Days agreement.
Gather the information you will need
The next registration form may change. The following is a preparation list, not a claim that these are all official required fields:
- School or organization name and a responsible adult contact.
- Preferred visit date and a second choice.
- Estimated student count, ages or grade levels, and adult count.
- Number of vehicles or buses and the expected arrival window.
- Learning objectives and any scheduled activity you hope to attend.
- Accessibility questions that need answers before the trip is approved.
- Billing contact, if the program requires a purchase or invoice.
Keep estimates separate from final counts. Assign one person to maintain the roster and communicate revisions. This avoids a teacher, office administrator, and transport coordinator each working from a different total.
Protect student information. Initial questions can usually describe the number of participants and the type of accommodation needed without attaching medical files or a complete student roster. Use your school’s approved process when information must be shared.
Ask the coordinator specific questions
A short, organized message is easier to answer than a broad request for βall the details.β You can adapt the following example. It is a suggested message, not a registration submission:
We are planning a future School Days visit for approximately [number] students in [grades or ages]. Could you confirm the next registration opening date, eligible visit dates, group requirements, admission arrangements for students and adults, and bus arrival instructions? We also need information about [relevant access or meal question]. Who should receive our final count?
Ask whether submitting a form reserves a place or whether a separate approval is required. Confirm how you will recognize acceptance, which changes are allowed, and what to do if your group must cancel. Keep the coordinator’s reply with the trip approval documents.
Register through the current official route
When registration opens, follow the link from the official program page. Read the date, group terms, and payment conditions before sending the form. If a field conflicts with the instructions you received, pause and ask the coordinator instead of entering an inaccurate answer just to proceed.
Review the contact email carefully. A single typing error can prevent the confirmation from reaching the trip organizer. After submission, save the confirmation, reference number, and any attachment with arrival instructions. Check spam filtering if an expected message does not arrive.
A general-admission ticket receipt is not necessarily a School Days confirmation. Avoid buying ordinary tickets as a workaround for closed registration without first asking whether your planned visit can be accommodated that way.
Confirm transport before finalizing the itinerary
The fair is at Expo New Mexico in Albuquerque. School-bus arrival, unloading, staging, parking, and pickup should be confirmed directly for your group. Do not send a bus to a passenger-car entrance based only on a general parking map.
Give the driver one written set of instructions with the approved entrance, contact number, arrival time, and pickup arrangement. Confirm what the group should do if traffic causes a late arrival or a vehicle must leave and return. Include walking and head-count time when calculating the return to school.
For students using mobility equipment, review the complete trip from bus seat to attraction and back. Our accessibility planning guide helps organize questions, while the fair’s program staff must confirm the available arrangements.
Arrange meals, water, and personal-care breaks
The fair’s general FAQ restricts outside food and drink, with specified exceptions, and describes a sealed-plastic-water-bottle allowance. A school lunch plan needs explicit confirmation from the School Days coordinator. Do not assume that bringing bagged lunches is automatically permitted or automatically prohibited under a separate group arrangement.
Ask where the group can eat, whether a meal is included, how food allergies will be handled, and what students should bring. Keep purchasing time and vendor queues in mind when deciding whether a food-court lunch fits a short visit.
The fair’s published Sensory Station information describes a calmer space in Youth Hall and personal-care resources. Confirm next-season locations, operating hours, and suitability for your group’s needs. The availability of a room does not replace the school’s responsibility to arrange adequate supervision.
Build a learning route instead of a long attraction list
Choose two educational stops and one flexible activity. For an agriculture-focused class, students might prepare questions about how products move from farm to market. For an arts-focused class, ask students to compare materials or techniques they observe. These are suggested classroom activities, not advertised fair workshops.
A simple route template is: arrival and orientation, first learning stop, restroom and water break, second learning stop, lunch, optional activity, then a final count before departure. Add timed performances only when they fit the confirmed program hours.
Prepare a short observation sheet with space for a drawing, one fact, and one question. Avoid requiring students to use phones or complete a complicated worksheet while moving through crowds. The fair visit should supply material for a later classroom discussion, not become a race to collect answers.
Give chaperones one clear day-of-visit sheet
Include assigned groups, the meeting location, restroom procedure, emergency contact, and departure time. Explain who contacts the trip leader if a student needs help and who remains with the rest of the group. Follow your school’s safeguarding and emergency procedures.
- Verify attendance before departure and at each agreed transition.
- Keep the confirmation and coordinator contact available offline.
- Identify a meeting place after entering the grounds.
- Set rules for purchases and optional activities before arrival.
- Keep extra time before loading the return bus.
Afterward, record what worked and which arrangements needed clarification. Retain useful planning notes, but review student information under your school’s retention policy rather than keeping unnecessary copies indefinitely.
Frequently asked questions
Can I register for 2026 School Days now?
No. The official page states that 2026 registration has closed. Contact the program about the next registration period.
Are students and chaperones admitted free?
The closed-registration page does not confirm next-season pricing or adult allowances. Ask the coordinator for the terms that apply to your group rather than assuming free admission.
Can homeschool groups participate?
Ask the coordinator to confirm eligibility and any group-size requirements for the coming program. Do not use another fair’s homeschool rules.
Does the School Days program include rides or a rodeo?
Do not assume so. Ask which activities are included and whether anything requires a separate reservation or purchase.
What counts as a confirmed booking?
Use the confirmation process specified by the program. Save the accepted date, participant counts, arrival instructions, and any payment record together.
