Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information State Fair Scout receives when you browse fair guides, send a question or correction, or follow a link, and how that information is used.

Who runs this site

State Fair Scout is an independent website published and edited by Steve. It covers state, county, and regional fairs, including dates, tickets, parking, food, entertainment, and accessibility resources. It is not operated by an official fair or government agency. For privacy questions or requests, email sdeout73@msn.com or use the contact page.

Information you send us

The contact form asks for your name, email address, and message. If you send a fair listing, correction, or update, you may also provide a fair name, dates, location, official source links, or other details. We use this information to respond, check the sources you provide, update fair guides where appropriate, and limit spam or abuse. The form is handled by WPForms and the site’s email service; your message is delivered to the site editor. Please do not send passwords, payment details, medical records, or other sensitive information.

You can read fair guides without creating a State Fair Scout account, and the site does not take payment for tickets. There is no active newsletter signup at present. The homepage says a newsletter may be added later; this policy will be updated before email addresses are collected for that purpose. Contacting us does not sign you up for marketing email.

Technical data and analytics

When you visit, the web host and site software may record an IP address, browser or device type, requested pages, referring page, date and time, and error or security events. These records help deliver the site, diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and protect it. WordPress and the caching service may use cookies or similar storage for site operation.

State Fair Scout uses Google Analytics through Site Kit to understand traffic, such as which fair guides are visited and how readers navigate the site. Google Analytics may collect device and browser information, page views, approximate location derived from technical data, and cookie or similar identifiers. We use reports to improve the directory and planning guides, not to decide whether an individual may attend a fair. See how Google uses information from partner sites.

The site also loads Grow by Mediavine for optional reader features such as saving or sharing content. Grow may use cookies or similar identifiers and process interactions with those features. See Mediavine’s privacy notices and choices.

Cookies, advertising, and your choices

Cookies and similar technologies may be used for essential site functions, analytics, advertising, and affiliate-link attribution. You can manage cookies in your browser and, where displayed, use the site’s consent controls. Blocking cookies may affect some features or ad choices.

State Fair Scout has Google AdSense code on the site. If ads are served, third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to State Fair Scout or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to visitors based on their visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Visitors can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. Other third-party ad vendors or networks may also use cookies where enabled; visitors can learn about choices for some of them at YourAdChoices. Opting out of personalization does not necessarily remove all ads.

Advertising providers may use cookies, IP addresses, device identifiers, and similar technologies to select, limit, measure, and report ads. Their processing is described in their own privacy notices. A privacy notice does not replace any consent choice required in your location.

Affiliate links and outside websites

Some outbound links may be handled by Sovrn Commerce (VigLink) so that State Fair Scout may earn a commission if a qualifying purchase is made, at no added cost to you. Sovrn and merchants may process clicks, referral details, device or browser data, IP address, and conversion information for attribution and fraud prevention. See Sovrn’s privacy policy for its practices and choices.

Our guides link to official fairs, ticket sellers, maps, vendors, and other outside websites. Those sites control their own forms, payments, cookies, and privacy practices. Review their policies before sharing information or buying tickets. State Fair Scout does not receive your ticket payment details.

How long information is kept

We keep messages and fair submissions for as long as reasonably needed to answer them, verify and document a correction, prevent abuse, or meet a legal obligation. Technical logs are kept according to the host’s operational and security practices. Analytics and advertising providers set their own retention periods. We review deletion requests for information we control and may retain limited records where required for legal or security reasons.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Under the GDPR, eligible visitors may also request restriction or portability of data, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, and complain to a data-protection authority. Under California privacy law, eligible residents may request information about collection and disclosure, correction or deletion, and an opt-out of sale or sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising where applicable. We do not sell contact-form messages. Advertising technologies can involve data sharing under some privacy laws.

To make a request, email sdeout73@msn.com with the subject “Privacy request” or use the contact form. Tell us what you want us to review and, if you contacted us before, which email address you used. We may ask for reasonable information to verify that the request is yours. We will respond under the law that applies to your request. For information held by Google, Sovrn, or a linked website, use that provider’s own privacy tools or contact it directly.

Children’s privacy and policy changes

State Fair Scout is for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request personal information from children. If you believe a child sent information to us, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

We will update this page when our forms, newsletter, analytics, advertising, or legal practices change. The date below shows the latest revision.
