State Fair Family Tips

A family-first state fair guide for pacing the day, handling crowds, finding breaks, and making the fair easier with kids.

The fair can be magical for kids and a lot for everyone. The trick is to make fewer promises, build in breaks, and decide what matters most before the day starts.

  • Take a gate photo. Photograph where you entered and where you parked.
  • Choose a family meetup point. Pick a visible landmark that does not move.
  • Pack for hands. Wipes, a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and a small backup snack solve a lot of small problems.
  • Alternate busy and calm. Follow rides or food lines with barns, exhibits, shade, or a show where everyone can sit.
  • Know guest services. Check official maps for lost child services, first aid, nursing areas, and accessibility support.
